WORKSHOP SCHEDULE 2013

Now's the time to block out your schedule for serious study and personal artist growth. I have two workshops scheduled this Spring.

"In Celebration of Nature" at Wenmohs Ranch
March 20-22, 2013

Located in the foothills of the Texas Hill Country, the Wenmohs Ranch is a working cattle ranch that has been in the family for eight generations. It is located in Cypress Mill, Texas, which is west of Austin and north of San Antonio, just off Highway 281 between Marble Falls and Johnson City. In recent years, the ranch has become popular as an artists' retreat and school, including an annual meeting of the Outdoor Painters Society each spring.

Emerging from an underground river outside the Ranch, Cypress Creek gets its name from the giant Cypress Trees that line its banks as it ambles for over a mile through the ranch. Painting and photography opportunities abound with each step along the creek's banks. Guests also enjoy the opportunity to paint and photograph Texas Hill Country scenery, including flowing hayfields, freshly cut hay bales, rolling pastures, roaming cattle, and winding country roads. Year round flora and fauna, including abundant wildflowers in the spring, provide almost unlimited artistic opportunities.

NEW YEAR...NEW WORK...NEW BLOG

Out with old, in with the new. I spent the better part of the holidays managing the Holiday Art sale which turned out to be a great success. It drove nearly 10,000 viewers to my website and I gained 85 new subscribers to my monthly newsletter.

Before I move forward into the new year, I will take time over the next week to reflect on 2012. I will share my top 10 artists who influence my work and the top 10 artists I think you should be watching. Some of the young people in this country have so much talent at such an early age and with the internet have created enormous followings in a very short time.

But for today I will just share one of four paintings I have entered into the Plein Air Southwest Salon. I painted this retired harvester last summer near Hillsboro, Texas. There is a John Deer harvester dealer next to the highway and in the back lot they keep about a dozen of these relics.

"No More Harvests"  9" x 12"

I painted this in the middle of the big heat wave we had during the summer. The heat forced me to paint quickly and I kind of like the results. I got a really bad case of chiggers in the process as well.

"Days Are Numbered"
11" x 14"  oil/linen
Framed $375
Unframed $345

I painted this on location a couple of years ago and it was a good thing I did. As I was painting this barn a survey crew was walking around the property marking off the property line and putting out stakes. As Larry the Cable Guy would say "And there's your sign". Two weeks later the barn was gone and I'm sure this painting is the only record that it ever existed. Now in its place is the new S.P.C.A. building.

Today is the last day of my first annual holiday sale. The paintings will still be available for sale on my website throughout the month and then I will pull them from the market forever. To view the remaining  eight paintings visit my website at http://rustyjonesstudio.com/

Included with the purchase of each painting is my new 2013 In Celebration of Nature Calendar. To preview and purchase a calendar separately either scroll down on the blog until you get to the calendar or click on the link http://rustyjonesstudiocom.blogspot.com/2012/11/2013-in-celebration-of-nature-calendar_28.html

HOLIDAY ART SALE #7

"On the Border"  9" x 12"
Framed $375
Unframed $345
This painting was done last Spring on the movie set in Big Bend National Park. To the right is Texas and to the left New Mexico. This is about as good as it gets for a plein air painter. It is real easy to modify the landscape and change things to one's whimsey when painting on location, but I set out to capture this scene exactly as I saw it and am very pleased with the result.

Included with the purchase of "On the Border" is a complimentary copy of my new 2013 In Celebration of Nature wall calendar. You can preview all twelve paintings in the calendar elsewhere in this blog, just scroll down. To see all twelve paintings in the Holiday Art sale go to my website at www.rustyjonesstudio.com.

HOLIDAY ART SALE #6

"Prescott Snow"  9" x 12"  oil/linen
Framed: $375
Unframed: $345

I will always have special (painful) feelings about this painting. On the morning we were heading north of Prescott to find snow scenes I suffered a corneal abrasion which means two to three layers of my cornea (the white part of my eye) got stuck to my eyelid as I was asleep and when I went to open my eyes rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrip! If you have never had a corneal abrasion consider yourself lucky, it is very painful.

I should have gone to the emergency clinic, but I was determined to paint in the snow. As I painted this scene the bright reflected light bouncing off the snow into my eye was almost too much to bear and I painted the entire scene through watery, painful squinty eyes. I think I finished a two hour painting in about 45 minutes.

Included with the purchase of "Prescott Snow" is a complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar and the price of shipping is included in the sale price.

HOLIDAY ART SALE-#5

"Big Bend Heat"   9" x 12"   oil/linen
Framed:  $375
Unframed: $345

Without question this is my favorite all-time painting I've done in my three trips to Big Bend. It had to be 120 degrees where I was standing along side the south loop. I remember drinking six bottles of water in the two hours it took to do this painting. I typically paint early in the morning and late in the afternoon at Big Bend because of the heat, but the midday light on this scene was more than I could handle. If it sells I will miss seeing this painting in my studio.

A complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar is included with every painting purchased during the Holiday Art Sale.

To preview the other paintings in the sale go to my website www.rustyjonesstudio.com

Shipping is included in the sale price.

HOLIDAY ART SALE-DAY 4

"River Bridge"  9" x 12"  oil/linen
SOLD

This river bridge is one of three such bridges that cross the San Antonio River in downtown San Antonio. I painted this on location while standing in a flower bed below the Little Rhine Steakhouse. With a balcony full of spectators watching over my shoulder and countless more that actually climbed into the flower bed to see what I was painting, I should have charged admission. I've painted this bridge a dozen times and I enjoy the experience every time.

I am including a complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar with every painting purchased during the Holiday Art Sale.
