"Days Are Numbered"
11" x 14"  oil/linen
Framed $375
Unframed $345

I painted this on location a couple of years ago and it was a good thing I did. As I was painting this barn a survey crew was walking around the property marking off the property line and putting out stakes. As Larry the Cable Guy would say "And there's your sign". Two weeks later the barn was gone and I'm sure this painting is the only record that it ever existed. Now in its place is the new S.P.C.A. building.

Today is the last day of my first annual holiday sale. The paintings will still be available for sale on my website throughout the month and then I will pull them from the market forever. To view the remaining  eight paintings visit my website at http://rustyjonesstudio.com/

Included with the purchase of each painting is my new 2013 In Celebration of Nature Calendar. HOLIDAY ART SALE #7

"On the Border"  9" x 12"
Framed $375
Unframed $345
This painting was done last Spring on the movie set in Big Bend National Park. To the right is Texas and to the left New Mexico. This is about as good as it gets for a plein air painter. It is real easy to modify the landscape and change things to one's whimsey when painting on location, but I set out to capture this scene exactly as I saw it and am very pleased with the result.

Included with the purchase of "On the Border" is a complimentary copy of my new 2013 In Celebration of Nature wall calendar. You can preview all twelve paintings in the calendar elsewhere in this blog, just scroll down. To see all twelve paintings in the Holiday Art sale go to my website at www.rustyjonesstudio.com.

HOLIDAY ART SALE #6

"Prescott Snow"  9" x 12"  oil/linen
Framed: $375
Unframed: $345

I will always have special (painful) feelings about this painting. On the morning we were heading north of Prescott to find snow scenes I suffered a corneal abrasion which means two to three layers of my cornea (the white part of my eye) got stuck to my eyelid as I was asleep and when I went to open my eyes rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrip! If you have never had a corneal abrasion consider yourself lucky, it is very painful.

I should have gone to the emergency clinic, but I was determined to paint in the snow. As I painted this scene the bright reflected light bouncing off the snow into my eye was almost too much to bear and I painted the entire scene through watery, painful squinty eyes. I think I finished a two hour painting in about 45 minutes.

Included with the purchase of "Prescott Snow" is a complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar and the price of shipping is included in the sale price.

HOLIDAY ART SALE-#5

"Big Bend Heat"   9" x 12"   oil/linen
Framed:  $375
Unframed: $345

Without question this is my favorite all-time painting I've done in my three trips to Big Bend. It had to be 120 degrees where I was standing along side the south loop. I remember drinking six bottles of water in the two hours it took to do this painting. I typically paint early in the morning and late in the afternoon at Big Bend because of the heat, but the midday light on this scene was more than I could handle. If it sells I will miss seeing this painting in my studio.

A complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar is included with every painting purchased during the Holiday Art Sale.

Shipping is included in the sale price.

HOLIDAY ART SALE-DAY 4

"River Bridge"  9" x 12"  oil/linen
SOLD

This river bridge is one of three such bridges that cross the San Antonio River in downtown San Antonio. I painted this on location while standing in a flower bed below the Little Rhine Steakhouse. With a balcony full of spectators watching over my shoulder and countless more that actually climbed into the flower bed to see what I was painting, I should have charged admission. I've painted this bridge a dozen times and I enjoy the experience every time.

I am including a complimentary copy of my new 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar with every painting purchased during the Holiday Art Sale.

HOLIDAY ART SALE

For the first time ever I am having a holiday art sale. I have carefully chosen twelve original oil paintings to sell. Why twelve you ask? Because "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is one of my favorite holiday tunes. It is second to my all time favorite "Little Drummer Boy". The sale will start tomorrow, December 1st, and I will post a new painting each day for twelve days on this Blog, on Facebook and on Twitter until all twelve are online. Then they will remain on sale until December 31st at which time I will return them to my inventory and pull them from the sale.

Most of the paintings are 9" x 12" but there are a couple 8" x 10"s and two that are 11" x 14". All of the paintings were painted en plein air (on location). All are framed in either gold or black. The prices range from $325 to $425 which represents a 50% to 75% savings off the retail price. You can purchase the paintings unframed if you like and the price for framed or unframed will be listed. The cost of shipping is included in the sales price.

As a holiday treat I am including my 2013 "In Celebration of Nature" calendar with each purchase. This is a beautiful 8 1/2" x 11" wall calendar that features twelve paintings, some of which have already found their way into private collections. You can preview and purchase additional copies of the calendar elsewhere on this blog.

All twelve paintings are available for preview on my website, www.rustyjonesstudio.com, but will only be available for purchase here on the blog. I will be using Paypal as the only method of payment. Once I receive an email confirmation from Paypal I will ship your painting within two business days.

Happy shopping everybody!

GHOST RANCH PLEIN AIR

Ghost Ranch country in Abiquiu, New Mexico

In October I joined seven other painters from Texas, Arizona and Colorado for five days of painting at Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico. Ghost Ranch is famous for several reasons but is known mostly because it is where Georgia O'Keefe lived and painted for most of her career. It has also served as the backdrop landscape for many major movies including "City Slickers" and "Silverado".

From l to r: Bob Rohm, Fran Ellisor, Steve Atlinson, Morris Reese, Jeanette Stutzman, Jane Christie, Dave Bates and Rusty Jones

This was my first trip to Ghost Ranch but it won't be my last. The only negative was not having any cell service, internet or TV. It was kind of like living on Mars for a week.

First morning and first painting. Right after breakfast on the first day I headed to the valley at the back of the property and did this 12" x 16" appropriately titled "Off to a Good Start". Unfortunately it was a lot
like scoring a birdie on the first hole in a round of golf. There's no way to go but down and I struggled the rest of the day.

  "Off the a Good Start"  12" x 16"  oil/linen

"O'Keefe's Place"  8" x 16"  oil/linen

One morning we were given permission to paint on Georgia O'Keefe's property. I spent most of the day here, producing three paintings.

"Dry Gully"  12" x 16" oil/linen

As the wind picked up in the afternoon I found refuge in a deep gully. The plein air easel I'm using is a new brand from Plein Air Pro. I like the palette being separate from the panel holder and it has a custom designed turp cup that fits right in the front. I have a Best Brella attached to provide shade. I thought for sure I would have problems with the wind, but it all worked out well and I got a good painting done.

Steve Atkinson knocks out another good one.

Morris Reese is one of my favorite people to paint with. Knowledgeable, talented and one funny guy.

This was Bob Rohm's 22nd annual trip the Ghost Ranch. He is normally teaching a workshop so having five days just to paint was a real joy for him.

Fran Ellisor had to survive an early morning mishap when the wind destroyed her easel. But being the trooper that she is, repairs were made and painting continued.

Jeanette Stutzman join us from Colorado. She was a blast to be around and a really talented plein air pastelist.

"Ghost Ranch Colors"  12" x 16"  oil/linen

My painting of the scene photographed above. This is right at the front of the property as you drive in from the highway.

Took one day away from painting to do a little fishing with my good friend Dave Bates.

"Cottonwood Crossing"  12" x 16"  oil/linen

On my drive home I took a different route back to Texas that took me through Taos and down through Mora. The cottonwoods were magnificent and I couldn't resist the temptation to stop and do one more painting.
